PRACTICAL MANDARIN CHINESE COURSES - LEVELS 1 - 4

Synopsis
QUT’s School of Humanities & Human Services will offer Practical Mandarin Chinese Courses from Levels 1 to 4 from mid July to early December 2007.  Levels 1 and 2 are taught at the beginner’s level; while levels 3 and 4 are taught at the lower-intermediate level. All four macro skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing will be a central part of these courses, but a strong emphasis will be placed on developing the listening and speaking skills.  Class sizes will be kept small to maintain teaching quality.

Duration
Each level of the Practical Mandarin Chinese Courses consists of 40 hours, with 4 hours per week over 10 weeks.

Dr Ying Xian Ingrid Wang, Coordinator, QUT Mandarin Language Program.

Dr Wang completed her PhD in Chinse Linguistics and Masters in Educational Studies at UQ. Her Bachelor's degree was undertaken in China in the English Language. She lectured in English for a few years in China before teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Australia . She has been teaching Chinese in Australian universities since 1992 (UNE, UQ and QUT). Her research interests include ‘foreign language teaching methodology', ‘language material development' and ‘Chinese linguistics (Chinese semantics in particular)'. She is a NAATI (National Accreditation Authority on Translators and Interpreters) accredited Level-3/Professional-level translator in both directions.

Course Withdrawal
An administrative fee of $50 per course applies when a student withdraws from a course before it commences. Request for a refund must be made in writing to Carley Chapman, Course Manager in the Office of Continuing Professional Education (Fax 3138 9371, Email carley.chapman@qut.edu.au.)
